Troops of the 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army have arrested six suspected oil bunkerers in a raid at Orile, Lagos State, in what the military described as part of its ongoing war against economic sabotage.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Wednesday that the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence and led by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, *81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Musa Yahaya*, who disclosed the development on X on Wednesday, the raid resulted in the recovery of key equipment allegedly used for illegal bunkering.
Items recovered during the operation include:
– *Four trucks*
– *One pumping machine*
– *Assorted pipes and drums*
The statement said:
> “Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided the site and arrested six suspected oil bunkerers. The operation also led to the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums allegedly used for illegal bunkering activities.”
The Army confirmed that the six suspects and all recovered items have been handed over to the *Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC* for further investigation and prosecution.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the *General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola*, urged them to sustain the fight against economic saboteurs.
He charged them “to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the 81 Division Area of responsibility.”
The Army said the operation is part of its broader efforts to protect critical national assets and strengthen security across Lagos and other states under the 81 Division.
