Solidstar feels that Nigerian music has lost its diversity and has become overly focused on Afrobeats.
The Afrobeats singer claimed that there were more genres available to listeners when he first entered the music scene in 2009 and 2010.
In contrast to the current scene, where Afrobeats, in his opinion, dominates practically everything, he recalled that Fuji music was also experiencing enormous popularity at the time.
In his words:
“Nigerian musicians aren’t versatile. Stocked on one Genre (AFROBEATS). Nothing like AFROBEATS when I came out fully in 2009/2010, Fuji was even huge! Make dem stop over rating nonsense and start selling good music!”
I believe he knows what he is saying and has a valid point, as he clearly understands the genre and its dynamics. His perspective adds an interesting dimension to the ongoing conversation about Afrobeats’ prominence and perception in the music industry.
