Soludo To Meet Buhari To Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has declared his commitment to securing the release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

A quarterly statewide briefing was held on Monday, and Soludo addressed to inform the people of Anambra of his governmental efforts.

He claimed to have scheduled a meeting with Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and was simply waiting for the time to arrive. During the meeting with the president, he hopes to discuss the issue of security in the southeast region as well as Kanu’s release.

Recall that Soludo urged the federal government to free Kanu during the APGA campaigns’ flag-off in Awka.

If the federal government found it difficult to release Kanu without condition, he promised to act as surety on his behalf.

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice responded to Soludo’s plea by stating that Soludo had just made a statement and had not requested Kanu’s release through the court or his office.

However, during the quarterly briefing, Soludo stated that he hoped to visit President Buhari and discuss the necessity of releasing Kanu with him.

He claimed that Kanu’s release will enable him to intervene in places where people utilize secessionist agitation to support criminal activity.

He said: “On the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, his release does not mean that insecurity will be completely eliminated. The call is in the best interest of the South East as a whole.

“He (Kanu) was saddened by the level of crime associated with the agitation when I visited him in prison. He called it an abomination.

“Everyone has now become a freedom fighter, using it as an avenue to commit crime. The truth is that if he is released, he will be able to distinguish between genuine freedom fighters and criminals.

“What is still holding him back is a political issue. I am awaiting confirmation of appointment with the President to hand him the letter officially.”
