Sophie Turner Sues Joe Jonas For Blocking Her From Taking Her Kids To UK

Joe Jonas is being sued by Sophie Turner for preventing her from traveling with her children to the United Kingdom. Before she filed a lawsuit against him, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had a “cordial meeting” over the weekend.

The 27-year-old actress alleges that her estranged husband is preventing her from traveling with their two children to the UK, but Jonas maintains that he is merely following a Florida court order. He has also refuted reports that Turner was caught off guard by his divorce filing.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, a Jonas representative said: “After numerous conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Joe and Sophie have a three-year-old daughter named Willa and a 14-month-old daughter, whose name hasn’t been publicly revealed.

“Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.

“Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting.

“Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting set-up.”

Turner wants to bring her kids to the United Kingdom, where she was born and raised.

However, according to Jonas, the Florida Court injunction makes it impossible for that to happen.

“Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK,” the document reads.

“Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order.”

In order for the children to be raised by both their mother and father, Jonas is seeking “shared parenting with the children. Of course, he is also okay with the children being raised in both the US and the UK.”

Additionally, the musician denied claims that he has “abducted” his own children.

The statement added: “This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted.”

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
