Before being rescued, firefighters made voice contact with the teenager who was treading water and was brave and wise enough to hold on to pipes in the well.

The teenager was taken to the hospital, but the first responders said his injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

In the Facebook post, the fire department said that these incidents are “not routine.”

The department didn’t say exactly how the teen ended up falling into the well but said it was proud of the crew’s work that night which underscores the importance of training for even unlikely scenarios.

“Our firefighters train often for these scenarios, that are not routine but they do happen. We’re proud of the professionalism shown by our crews,” the fire department wrote.
