Sporting CP Coach Speaks On Manchester United Links

Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting CP, has replied to suggestions that he is interested in replacing Manchester United’s troubled manager, Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United had a dismal start to the season, losing 8 of their first 15 games in all competitions, and they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night after a 3-0 loss to Newcastle United.

According to sources, Amorim’s contract with Sporting CP includes a €10 million (£8.7 million) release clause, but the 38-year-old has indicated that he respects and wishes to fulfil his deal with the Portuguese club.

Zinedine Zidane, the former coach of Real Madrid, has also been connected to a transfer to Manchester United. Following his second-team departure from the Spanish Giants in 2021, the 51-year-old has been without a club.

Speaking during his team’s 4-2 Portuguese Cup victory over Farense on Thursday, Amorim stated he hadn’t heard from the team.

His words: “This year, I’m not going to go back to the same conversation as last year. I’m not going to make any kind of comment on these situations.

“Regarding the future, I have an idea for the end of the season, but I won’t say it now. But the results and the context take us to something different. I don’t want to be commenting on these things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United.”
