St Cecilia

Rev 14:14-19
Luke 21:5-11

As we approach the end of the ordinary season, we are asked to make use of our gifts before we encounter God’s judgment. As Jesus told us today, It shall first be preceded by cosmic upheavals, false messiahs who would claim to be the right political leaders and saviors that can make things right and better than everyone else but more than anything else, that our focus is to repent of our sins, become close to God and serve Him. A true followers of Christ would also be challenged at this time for their faith, some will be harassed and others persecuted and not a small number would be put to death for the sake of Christ. Others will be betrayed by those they never expected would do so including friends, family and kin. However, the assurance Christ gives us lies in the fact that ‘tough times do not last, but tough people do.’ we are called to focus on our journey with the Lord.

Today is also the memorial of St. Cecilia , the patroness of sacred music. One thing about Cecilia is that she lived a life of gratitude and generosity. She consecrated her virginity in thanksgiving to God yet her parents compelled her to marry a nobleman named Valerian whom she converted to the faith and his brother Tiburtius. They suffered martyrdom for their faith. St . Cecilia finished her glorious triumph some days after them. She gave her entire life to Christ. She loved sacred music. No need for heroics – she was just a sincere and generous heart. No matter what, we’ll always have enough to give whether we’re rich or poor. We have enough time and talent to give. We have enough comfort and care to give. Giving of yourself is enough. “No one has ever become poor by giving.” – (Anne Frank) May God teach us to be generous and may our generosity be pleasing to Him. Amen.

St Cecilia pray for us. Amen.

Today's Quote

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
