St Luke The Evangelist

Luke 10:1-9

Today the Church celebrate a prolific writer -St. Luke the Evangelist. He not only the third gospel in the Bible but also the Acts of the Apostles. Catechism of the Church paragraph 105 teaches us that God is the author of Sacred Scriptures and human agents are secondary authors.

When we read and meditate on the gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, one can simply notice the special influence of the Holy Spirit and Paul’s reliable assistance in bringing the word of God to the Gentiles.

In the long history of the church, perhaps no partnership has been more consequential than that between St. Paul the Apostle and his disciple, St. Luke. When St. Paul was left on his own, St. Luke was a trustworthy companion and like a true physician, he took care of him and attended to his needs.

Whenever we hear the Gospel, “ the harvest is rich” . There is an urgency in the message. Those who have heard the Word, who have cultivated an intimate relationship with God, those who live in hope!  God sends us to be his presence in the world – to preach with our person, our attitudes, our hopefulness, our very presence.  God sends us!  Whatever our message, whatever our actions, whatever our demeanor…we need to be sure that it is of God and not of us.  God’s will and not that of ours.

The world is ready, ready for transformation, ready to embrace the words of peace, hope love, forgiveness, and salvation. keep watching, look beneath the surface, and lead with peace – you just may be surprised by the yield – you may need help harvesting – you may even be able to share the excess…
We are vessels for God’s peace to enter our world.
