Start Your Morning The Right Way

Your morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day. Healthy habitual behavior in the morning sets your day up for success. It helps you manage stress, gives you more energy, and creates a sense of control. A morning routine can help you start your day feeling relaxed, empowered, and productive.

But for a routine to truly affect your day, aim for a holistic regimen that addresses the needs of your overall being. Consider the following aspects when developing a morning routine:

Mental
Consider the mindset you want to establish for the day and the steps you can take to reach it. You can try mindfulness to achieve this.

Physical
Assess your physical wellness and what you need to feel comfortable and pain-free. Consider stretching more often, or light jogging to elevate yourself.

Emotions
A productive morning should include emotional awareness. Try starting a gratitude practice as that can benefit you physically, mentally, and professionally.

Spiritual
Feeling connected is part of living a fulfilled life. Include meditation or breathing exercises to help you feel calm and grounded.

Here are examples of the bare minimum activities that should be standard in any routine.

Prioritize Silence
Give yourself the time in the morning before starting your day. Lying awake before getting up gives you the time to focus on yourself and set positive intentions for the day.

Try Meditation
If the first option doesn’t work for you, try meditating. Whether you’re fully ready for the day or not, spend some time meditating. It makes it easy for you to plan your day around a clear goal.

Get Moving
Starting the day with a stretch or workout gives your body and mind the right boost. Depending on your schedule, you can do light yoga, take a 30-minute walk, or hit the gym.

Build Your Work Plan.
Having a to-do list gives you a sense of purpose when you know what you want to achieve. Write down 4-5 things you intend to do on a piece of paper. It’s a great way to kick-start your day.

Don’t try to change too much overnight. Set simple goals to start your new morning routine. You can add new goals once you’ve mastered these small changes.

Remember that your routine can change over time. If you find a certain practice adds stress instead of relieving it, change it.
