Suicide Bomber Detonates IED Near Mosque In Borno

An improvised explosive device (IED) strapped to a suicide bomber’s body detonated close to a mosque in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, injuring two persons.

The suicide bomber also perished, according to State Police Command spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Naso, who verified the event to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, March 18, 2024.

Nahum reports that the incident happened on Sunday, March 17, about 8 p.m., during the Muslim faithful’s night prayer.

The male suicide bomber killed himself when he detonated the improvised explosive device (IED) near the roundabout. He was thought to be travelling to the mosque.

Immediately following the explosion, two bystanders who were hurt were taken to a hospital to receive medical attention.

“A combined team of security personnel were immediately deployed to the scene of the incident to restore normalcy,” the PPRO said.

The spokesperson asked the public to be especially vigilant during current Ramadan, when the majority of Muslims observe late-night prayers.

“People should make sure that they are vigilant and should not hesitate to report any suspicious moves to the security agencies,” he added.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
