Super Eagles Striker, Asisat Oshoala Misses Out On Final 3 Shortlist For The Women’s Ballon d’Or Award

Asisat Oshoala, a striker for the Super Falcons and Barcelona, did not make the final three women’s shortlist for the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award 2022.

Agnesisika Blog reported that the 30-woman list of nominees for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or was announced last week, making Oshoala the first African woman to be selected for the award.

Beth Mead, Lena Oberdorf, and Alexia Putellas have now been named as the top three finalists for the award by UEFA.

Oshoala, who missed around seven weeks of action due to injury last season, equalled Madrid CFF’s Geyse Ferreira in the Spanish topflight league for the highest goal scorer with 20 goals in 19 games.

Oshoala surpassed her fellow countrywoman, Perpetua Nkwocha’s four awards record last month by winning the title of CAF Women’s Player of the Year for a record fifth time.
