Taliban Bans Female Students From Entering University

Private universities in Afghanistan, which are under the control of the Taliban, have been told not to allow female students to take university admission examinations the following month, cementing the Taliban’s anti-education women’s stance.

A letter from the ministry was sent to organizations in the northern regions of Afghanistan, including Kabul, where tests are scheduled to begin at the end of February, according to a report by Reuters on January 28 on Saturday.

According to the letter, any institutions breaking the restrictions would be subject to legal action.

Universities were instructed to stop accepting female students by the Higher Education Ministry in December, “until further notice.”

Days afterwards, the government forbade the majority of female NGO employees from working. Most high schools for girls have also been shut down by the authorities.

The West has denounced the restrictions on women’s employment and educational opportunities.

The US and NATO finally withdrew from the nation in 2021 after more than two decades of attempting to impose western education and values on the Islamic state, leaving the Taliban in control of the nation.

After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, the majority of women and girls were forbidden from entering high school.

Even though they had constantly assured the international community that the prohibition was only temporary, the group immediately broke its promise to allow the girls to return to school in March 2022.

Afghanistan is currently experiencing an economic crisis due to financial sector sanctions and a reduction in development financing, and relief organizations have warned that tens of millions of people urgently need assistance.

The Taliban government, which has stated that it is focused on increasing economic self-sufficiency, was also believed to have maintained excellent income collection last year, according to a World Bank report released this week.
