Taylor Swift And Putin Shortlisted For Time Person Of The Year

TIME Magazine has revealed the shortlist for their Person of the Year 2023, which includes, among others, American music artist Taylor Swift, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and British monarch King Charles III.

The renowned Person of the Year, according to the magazine, merely denotes the “person, group, or concept that has most influenced the headlines, for better or worse.”

Volodymyr Zelensky and the “spirit of Ukraine,” Elon Musk, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Greta Thunberg, and a group of journalists known as the Guardians were the most recently honoured.

Time chose the following nominees for 2023: Taylor Swift, Sam Altman, the prosecutors who charged Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Barbie, Xi Jinping, the Hollywood strikers, Carlos III, and Jerome Powell.

Taylor Swift
Swift is one of the most influential musicians in history, and her net worth reportedly reached $1 billion, according to Bloomberg.

According to the site, the singer and songwriter is one of the rare singers to achieve this financial feat just through music releases and appearances.

“Taylor is in a unique position, in terms of monetizing her talent. In an era where artists have lost millions as album sales gave way to digital downloads, she’s actually riding the tech wave, instead of going out with the digital tide,” branding expert Doug Eldridge told FOX Business.

Jerome Powell
The final contender on TIME’s shortlist this year was Jerome Powell, head of the Federal Reserve, who was recognised for his work in bringing down inflation in the United States.

His accomplishment was orchestrating the ‘soft landing’ of managing skyrocketing prices by raising interest rates without discouraging investment or sending the country into recession.

Barbie
After starring in her first live-action film, the sole fictional character among the candidates, she paved her way to the nomination. Greta Gerwig’s film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was the highest-earning film of 2023, grossing nearly $1.4 billion.

Xi Jinping
The head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) finished second in 2017 and is now attempting to make the cover of Time for the first time after completing an unprecedented third term in the country’s history.

Sam Altman
In addition, commercially feasible artificial intelligence was widely adopted by 2023. Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI (best known for ChatGPT), was at the forefront of the drive to provide capable new tools – and then articulated the necessity for various sorts of regulation.

Charles III
After several decades of waiting, the now-king of England was crowned in May of this year, bringing to an end Elizabeth II’s long reign, who was selected Person of the Year in 1952, the year she became queen.

Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin, who was named Person of the Year in 2007, continues to wage war in Ukraine. However, 2023 brought with it a new squabble: the Wagner Group issue.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the paramilitary force that was formerly an ally of the Russian leader, perished in a plane crash shortly after his revolt.
