Taylor Swift’s album hits a new high on Spotify with one billion plays

With over one billion plays on Spotify, Taylor Swift’s most recent album has shattered a previous record.

The singer from the United States became the first artist on Spotify to reach 300 million plays in a single day after releasing The Tortured Poets Department last week.

“On April 22, 2024, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single week,” the streaming service stated in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday.

“The album has surpassed one billion streams since release.”

In August 2023, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter became the first female artist on Spotify to exceed 100 million monthly listeners, shattering previous records.

Swift’s Midnights was the most streamed album in the UK in 2023 and peaked at number one on both sides of the Atlantic.

When the album was published in October 2022, it also beat the previous record for the most albums streamed in a single day in the history of the streaming platform.

Her eagerly awaited eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, has collaborations with Florence and The Machine and Post Malone. The titles and lyrics of some of the songs seem to allude to her former romantic partners.

By topping the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) worldwide artist chart for a record-breaking fourth time earlier this year, Swift was also crowned the biggest-selling global recording artist for 2023.
