A Missouri math teacher is likely to go to prison after admitting to having s*x with a 16-year-old pupil while other kids acted as her ‘lookouts’, and the boy’s father is still facing felony charges for allegedly allowing the unsettling relationship.
Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, was arrested in January 2024 after a student told a school resource officer about their illicit relationship and handed detectives a photo of the marks she placed on her victim’s back.
On Friday, September 6, she pleaded guilty to s*xual contact with a student, a felony that may land her in prison for the next four years, according to Daily Mail.
The plea arrangement allowed her to avoid more serious accusations, such as statutory rape, child molestation, and child endangerment.
According to the publication, the instructor will now be placed under house arrest until her sentence on October 11.
The boy’s father, Mark Creighton, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after reportedly knowing about the affair but failing to report it.
However, the lawsuit has been put on hold until after Clifton-Carmack’s sentence in Pulaski County, Missouri, according to the county prosecutor, Kevin S. Hillman.
Clifton-Carmack’s plea is the most recent development in the sad case, which began in December when a student witness revealed the teen’s contact with the Laquey High School maths teacher.
The witness provided authorities a photo of the victim’s torn-up back, which Clifton-Carmack allegedly mauled as the two had sex in the witness’s driveway.
The maths instructor, a divorced mother of two, had previously been in problems with school officials for becoming too close to her children, according to the witness.
She also frequently wore revealing apparel, such as low-cut shirts and tight leggings. When detectives confronted Clifton-Carmack on December 8, 2023, she denied the relationship.
Cops took her phone and discovered text exchanges that revealed the risqué relationship, according to court filings.
She left just before Christmas, allegedly to visit family in Texas. However, her housemates stated that she had relocated permanently and that they were unsure whether she would return.
In January, the Garden Ridge Police Department arrested her in Comal County, Texas, and charged her with first-degree child endangerment, second-degree statutory rape, sexual contact with a student, and fourth-degree child molestation.
Creighton, the boy’s father, was also detained in January on suspicion of endangering the welfare of a child after another witness claimed they informed the teen’s father about the teacher’s activities.
According to the court filings, he simply stated that he was aware of their sexual relationship. He also knew that his son and the teacher utilised kids as lookouts, especially when they had s*x during the school day.
The man “knew of the relationship of his minor child and the 26-year-old teacher, and instead of reporting the information, he continued to cover for them and allowed the relationship to continue” and “even allowed Hailey to come over to his residence and see the victim while he was present,” prosecutors said.
He also reportedly informed a witness that he was willing to lie for his son if necessary.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
