Emmanuel Macron is a French politician, banker, and civil servant, who is currently serving a second term as the President of France.
He was elected on May 14, 2017. Macron was born on December 21, 1977, in Amiens, France, he studied philosophy at Paris Nanterre University before attending the prestigious École nationale d’administration (ENA), where many of France’s political leaders have been trained.
He started his career as a senior civil servant in the Ministry of Economy and as an investment banker at Rothschild & Cie, where he played a key role in major business deals.
He joined politics as an advisor to President François Hollande and was appointed Minister of the Economy, Industry, and Digital Affairs in 2014.
While serving as a minister, Macron advocated for economic liberalization, pushing through labor reforms and business-friendly policies.
However, his growing ambition led him to resign in 2016 to launch his own political movement, La République En Marche! (LREM), thereby positioning himself as a centrist, alternative to France’s traditional political parties.
In the 2017 presidential election, Macron ran on a platform promoting pro-business policies, European integration, and political reform. Many voters resonate with his fresh approach and the promise to move beyond the traditional left-right divide.
He won the election decisively against far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, becoming France’s youngest president at 39.
As president, Macron has pursued economic reforms, labor market flexibility, and pension restructuring, but his policies have also sparked controversy. In 2018, the “Yellow Vest” protests, which reflected public discontent over economic inequality and fuel tax hikes began. He also faced challenges in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Macron was reelected in 2022 and has continued to push for European cooperation, climate policies, and defense strategies amid global crises, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Despite criticism, he remains a dominant personality in French and European politics, promoting modernization, economic competitiveness, and a stronger European Union.
He got married to his wife, Brigitte Macron in 2007.
