“They Attacked Me With Knives and Bottles”: Actress Chioma Akpotha Flees As Political Thugs Attack Her

Nollywood actress; Chioma Akpotha screamed in terror after being attacked at her voting unit in Lagos State. Akpotha, who recorded a live Instagram video, claimed the men assaulted her.

As strange-looking guys barged into the voting booth at Victoria Garden City in Lagos, the actress fled to some soldiers and declared that she was through with the accreditation process and ready to cast her ballot.

“They destroyed my side mirror, and hit my car. I don’t even know the extent of damage to the car, but I just ran out for my life because they wanted to stab me and all that. Thank God I came with some people to help me.”

Soldiers who had followed her to the polling place, where many people were visible outside because the voting area was empty, heard her pleas. In Lagos, alleged thugs were seen on camera menacing voters.

In a video, roughly eight young guys can be seen yelling at potential voters to either vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) or stay inside on a desolate street.

“If you no fit vote APC, no come outside oo. This one no be like last time oo,” one of them was heard saying in pidgin

President-elect Bola Tinubu of the APC was defeated in Lagos, where the APC has ruled since 1999, by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). There were several incidents of violence in Lagos during the presidential election.

Daily Trust had reported the threat issued against Igbo by the Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo.

Addressing supporters of the ruling APC at a meeting, MC Oluomo threatened Igbos who would not vote for the party to stay at home.

“We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them, Mama Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, sit down at home. Sit down at home,” he said in the video.

Since his statement caused widespread controversy, MC Oluomo retracted it.

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, criticized Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and President-elect Muhammadu Buhari’s silence.

The Cybercrimes Unit of the Command was also directed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, to launch an immediate and thorough inquiry into the event.

We are glad Chioma is now safe.
