Former Delta State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office at a time when his leadership was “really needed” by Nigeria, and deserves a second term to complete his reforms.
Okowa, who serves as South-South Coordinator of the APC Renewed Hope Ambassadors, RHA, made the statement on Sunday in Asaba during a courtesy visit by the national leadership of Working People United, WPU.
The former governor highlighted the National Education Loan Fund, NELFUND as one of the critical reforms revamping Nigeria’s economy.
He said 1.6 million tertiary institution students have already benefited from the scheme.
“Many students who initially dismissed NELFUND as a scam have enrolled and are benefiting from it,” Okowa said.
He urged Nigerians still doubting the programme’s credibility to take advantage of it, describing it as part of Tinubu’s efforts to address fundamental socio-economic issues.
Okowa cited other key reforms of the Tinubu administration including state police, deregulation of electricity generation, and subsidy removal.
“I urge the citizens of the country to support Tinubu’s reform programmes, which are beginning to positively address some fundamental socio-economic and political issues,” he said.
Given the template the President is applying, Okowa said Tinubu deserves a second term to complete the process.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon appreciate the “pragmatic efforts” of the administration to refocus the country, and called on WPU members to rally support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
WPU Inaugurates Delta Chapter, Names Okowa Patron
Earlier, National Coordinator of WPU, Williams Akporeha, said the group visited Asaba to inaugurate its Delta chapter and inform Okowa of its objectives.
Akporeha said WPU comprises public and private-sector workers, self-employed persons and artisans across different cadres.
He assured Okowa of the group’s support for his senatorial ambition, as well as the electoral victories of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori and President Tinubu.
The high point of the event was the conferment of patronage of WPU on Okowa.
