President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina, a 39-year-old Computer Engineering don from Obafemi Awolowo University, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
The appointment, announced Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will take effect when Prof. Ishaq Oloyede’s tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
Aina, who will turn 40 in July, becomes the youngest person ever to head JAMB in its history. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency described him as a systems expert with over 15 years of experience advising federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reform, and examination integrity. He has previously consulted for NECO and NBTE on ICT systems.
A member of COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE, and IET, Aina is expected to leverage his tech background to deepen JAMB’s digital reforms and examination security.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina will “build on the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor” and take the board “beyond” its current standing.
Oloyede, who has served as JAMB Registrar since 2016, is credited with transforming JAMB into a revenue-generating agency and introducing CAPS, the Central Admissions Processing System.
