Tobi Amusan Secures Silver Medal At The World Athletics Championships

Tobi Amusan, a sprint hurdler from Nigeria, finished second in the women’s 100-meter hurdles on Monday, September 15 at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The great sprinter from Nigeria won silver after Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland came within a hair’s breadth of winning gold.

With a stunning run of 12.24 seconds, 23-year-old Kambundji startled the competitors, setting a new national record and winning Switzerland’s first-ever world title in the competition.

Nigeria won its 12th medal at the World Championships after Amusan, the 2022 world champion and world record holder, came in second with a time of 12.29 seconds.

With a time of 12.34 seconds, American Grace Stark won the bronze medal.

Her teammate Masai Russell finished fourth in 12.44, hindered by the race’s poorest response time of 0.240 seconds.

Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland finished fifth with a timing of 12.49 seconds, matching her season’s best mark and barely surpassing Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who recorded the same time.

Danielle Williams of Jamaica, the 2023 global champion, finished seventh in 12.53 seconds, followed by Nadine Visser of the Netherlands in eighth place with 12.56.

With a time of 12.36 seconds, Amusan, 28, had dominated her semi-final heat and finished ahead of Visser and Skrzyszowska, making her one of the favorites going into the final.

She had a great start in the final, but she couldn’t stop Kambundji’s late surge.

After winning the Eugene race in 2022 and setting a world record of 12.12 seconds, which she still holds today, the Nigerian sprint sensation adds silver to her collection.

Congratulations Tobi! We are proud of you. More Wins!!!

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
