Top Russian General Seriously Wounded In Ukraine

A senior Russian commander has been gravely wounded on the battlefield in Ukraine, based on recent reports from Russian authorities.

Lt.-Gen. Esedulla Abachev, a prominent commander in the Leningrad Military District, has been on the front lines since the war’s outset, according to Sergei Melikov, the leader of the Russian republic of Dagestan.

“He has held several important commanding positions, but has always been at the very front, at the most responsible and therefore most dangerous sections of the front,” Melikov stated on Telegram.

He provided no additional details about Abachev’s condition but confirmed that the 57-year-old is being treated in “one of the best military hospitals in the country.”

According to Ukraine’s military intelligence service (HUR), several of the general’s limbs required amputation due to injuries sustained during a HUR strike on a military column in Russia’s western Kursk region.

Since Moscow initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, at least 12 Russian generals have reportedly been killed.

The Leningrad Military District was reinstated in 2024 under the directive of Russian President Vladimir Putin, covering all regions of north-western Russia up to the Ural Mountains. Its name harks back to the Soviet-era designation for St. Petersburg.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
