Tottenham And Brighton Fined £100,000 Each Following Touchline Altercation

Following the latest Premier League game’s touchline altercation between the two benches, Tottenham and Brighton were each fined £100,000.

After a heated pregame brawl between Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi and interim Spurs manager Cristian Stellini, the match erupted in the second half with a staff brawl between the two dugouts.

Stellini, who appeared to be an innocent spectator, and De Zerbi were consequently sent to the stands, and the Football Association has since punished both clubs.

An FA statement read: “Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion have been fined £100,000 each for a mass confrontation that occurred during their Premier League match on Saturday 8 April.

“Both clubs admitted they failed to ensure their benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and did not behave in a way which is proper during the 58th minute.

“An independent regulatory commission imposed their fines following a subsequent hearing.”

Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Brighton was marred by controversy as Brighton had two goals disallowed and two strong penalty appeals rejected. PGMOL chief Howard Webb was forced to issue an apology following the game for his mistakes.
