Tragic Collision Claims Life, Injures Others in Cross River

A devastating accident occurred in Cross River, Nigeria, where two trucks collided, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident happened along the Iwuru Road in Akamkpa Local Government Area, with reports indicating that speeding was a major factor.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a Lexus 350 Sports Utility Vehicle. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that two people were injured and one person died at the scene. The bodies of the victims have been deposited in a morgue.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Innocent Etuk, urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during the festive season, and avoid speeding, drinking alcohol, and using phones while driving. He emphasized the importance of defensive driving and obeying traffic rules to prevent such accidents.

This incident is part of a growing concern over road safety in Cross River, with 32 people dying from road traffic crashes between January and September 2025. The FRSC has increased personnel deployment to manage traffic and is campaigning against reckless driving.

The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and have appealed to road users to prioritize safety.
