Trump Declares Himself “Acting President of Venezuela

United States President Donald Trump has stirred global controversy after sharing a post on his Truth Social platform portraying himself as the “Acting President of Venezuela.” The post featured an image styled like a Wikipedia profile, listing Trump as the 45th and 47th President of the United States and, controversially, as Venezuela’s leader beginning January 2026. The image also displayed his official portrait and named U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

The post followed Trump’s earlier statements suggesting that the United States would oversee Venezuela until a “stable and proper” leadership transition is achieved. He claimed the move was necessary to restore order and manage Venezuela’s vast natural resources, particularly its oil reserves, in a way that would benefit both countries.

Trump further stated that his administration plans to place between 30 and 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil under U.S. control for sale on the international market.

The declaration also carried a warning to Cuba, with Trump indicating that Havana must cooperate with the United States or risk losing access to Venezuelan oil, a major source of support for the island nation.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Trump warned that the United States could carry out additional military strikes in Nigeria if attacks on Christians continue.

He made the remarks during an interview, following a U.S. military operation conducted on Christmas Day against Islamic State militants in northwest Nigeria. The operation was reportedly carried out at the request of the Nigerian government.

Trump said he hoped the strike would be a one-time intervention but stressed that further military action could follow if violence against Christians does not stop.
