Two Farmers Abducted, Two Others Killed By Kidnappers

Gunmen suspected of kidnapping, killed a So-Safe Corps officer, Saheed Ogunrinde, two labourers, and kidnapped two more at a farm in Awo village, Orile-Imo in Ogun State’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

According to reports, the kidnappers, clad in military camouflage, stormed the farm, which employed over 200 people, on Tuesday night, May 30, 2023.

According to a source, the gunmen attempted to abduct many farm employees but were repelled by security guards, albeit they succeeded in kidnapping two and killing two others.

Soji Ganzalo, Commander of So-Safe Corps, confirmed the occurrence, saying his soldiers joined the operation to save the situation when the kidnappers entered the village.

He said, “The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps also known as So-Safe Corps has lost one of his gallant Officers to kidnappers in Orile-Imo in Ogun.

“On Tuesday, 30th May 2023, the Corps received information that two people were killed and other two were kidnapped in Awo Village (Abule Awo), Orile-Imo in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.”

Ganzallo reported that the So-Safe Corps Special Team Owode-Egba Area Command, directed by the Area Operation Officer, SC Saheed Ogunrinde, and the Police team, proceeded on a mission to rescue the unharmed kidnap victims on the same day, but all efforts to track down the suspects were futile.

Ganzallo stated that on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the So-Safe team and the Police returned to the impacted region to conduct a thorough search that will stretch all the way to the Interchange axis and there was a clear indication that the syndicates would be apprehended.

Ganzallo lamented that the kidnap suspects opened fire when they saw the joint operations of the So-Safe Corps and the Police, and the bullet hit the operation leader of the So-Safe Corps, SC Saheed Ogunrinde, who fell and died as a result of too much blood gushing from the bullet wound.

“His rifle and phone was taken away by the syndicates and effort is ongoing to capture the crime suspects and to recover the property of the Corps from them,” he added.

Ganzallo stated that the dead hero’s remains were brought to his residence in Ajura, Orile-Imo, and buried according to Muslim customs.
