Two People In Critical Condition Following A Fatal UK School Crash

After a car collided with a primary school building in south-west London today, killing an eight-year-old girl, two people were critically injured.

At the exclusive Study Prep ladies’ school in Wimbledon, the crash occurred yesterday morning, according to the authorities.

“A second eight-year-old girl was taken to hospital where she remains in a life-threatening condition,” London’s Metropolitan Police said in an update.

“A woman, in her 40s, also remains in hospital in a critical condition,” the police added.

They said “a number of other people”, including a seven-month-old girl, were also taken to the hospital but their condition was not life-threatening.

“It is difficult to imagine the pain and upset the families of those involved are going through and we will do all we can to support them as our investigation continues,” Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland said in the statement.

The incident occurred on Camp Road, close to Wimbledon Common just before 10 am yesterday. The police, an ambulance, and the fire department were dispatched to the scene.

A gold Land Rover was seen parked at an angle against the wall of the contemporary school building in aerial imagery of the structure.

The car’s 46-year-old Wimbledon resident driver was apprehended at the scene and sent to the hospital, according to police today. According to their assessment, her illness was not life-threatening.

She has been released on bond while police conduct additional investigations because they suspect her of causing a fatal accident while driving recklessly.

Girls between the ages of four and eleven attend Study Prep. It is divided up into different locations, with the youngest students being taught on Camp Road, close to the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club.

According to the school’s website, students in grades 4 through 8 had their last day of classes on Thursday.

The crash “profoundly shocked” everyone at the school, according to a statement from the institution. “At this terrible time, our thoughts are with the families of those who have lost a loved one and those who have been hurt.”
