The Kwara State Police Command has verified the murder of two police officers and the kidnapping of two individuals, a Chinese national and a Nigerian, following an armed assault on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The attack, which took place around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, was executed by a group of unidentified gunmen. The assailants reportedly invaded the mining site and fatally shot two officers of the Nigeria Police Force: Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja. The attackers also stole the officers’ rifles.
In a statement issued and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, the command described the incident as “heinous” and pledged to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators.
“In addition to the heinous killings, the assailants abducted two individuals: Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian from Kogi State, both of whom were working at the site during the attack,” the statement read.
Commissioner Ojo denounced the brutal act and reassured the public that tactical and intelligence-driven operations were already in progress to ensure the prompt rescue of the abducted individuals and the apprehension of those responsible. He stated that the police command is working with other security agencies and local stakeholders to strengthen security in the area and prevent further attacks.
“The command remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property across the state,” the police spokesperson stated.
“We appeal to residents to remain calm and law-abiding and to provide credible and timely information that can support the ongoing investigation and rescue mission.”
