Tyson Fury Announces Talks With Anthony Joshua For A Match

Tyson Fury has announced that he and Anthony Joshua are once again in discussions about a major fight taking place in the UK in September.

The fight would be held at Wembley Stadium after earlier negotiations for a matchup in late 2017 broke down because the Gypsy King was impatiently waiting for AJ to sign the contract.

Negotiations about it had been going on for months before both parties said the highly awaited fight, which was set to take place on December 3, 2022, was officially off the table.

The Gypsy King announced the news, captioning a photo of himself and AJ: “A few days ago I sent a draft contract to Anthony Joshua for a fight in September.

“It’s a fight that everyone wants to see including myself. Come off AJ let’s give the world what they want to see.

“This time I’m not gonna make a million vids and keep putting pressure on. The ball is now on your side.”

His opponent at heavyweight has not yet responded to the social media post, which has already received over 35,000 likes in less than 30 minutes from British boxing fans who are hoping for a heavyweight matchup between two of the country’s top fighters.

Joshua is represented by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, and securing a title bout with Fury may need fresh, protracted discussions as both companies try to agree on how much money will be shared between the two competitors.

As recently as September, when Hearn acknowledged that talks to make the fight happen were ongoing, Tyson Fury is said to have given Joshua a 60/40 share agreement.

Though the heavyweight world champion has announced his want to face Joshua again, it might already be too late. On Thursday, Joshua’s team made it known that they planned to have him make another appearance in August.

Hearn and another British heavyweight Dillian Whyte have been in talks for a big bout at the end of the year, but the prospect of facing Fury may force them to reconsider.

After losing his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua may have one final chance to negotiate a contract with Fury in order to reclaim his heavyweight world championship.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
