UAE Orders Arrest Of Man On Viral Video Buying Luxury Cars

According to Arabian Business, the United Arab Emirates has issued an arrest warrant for a man who was captured on camera boastfully ordering an auto salesperson to sell him the most costly vehicles in the garage.

The video mocks and criticizes Emirati society, says a report by the government-run news agency WAM, and it stirs up negative public sentiment among the populace.

In the trending video, an Asian man dressed as an Emirati is seen attempting to purchase a $545,000 car as well as other vehicles while being flanked by individuals holding significant amounts of cash.

He stated: “What is the most expensive car here? Okay. I want the Mercedez, rolls royce and the Red Bull sports car.

In the meantime, the Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes in the UAE has mandated the man’s imprisonment while inquiries are ongoing after accusing him of exploiting the internet by disseminating thrilling propaganda that inflames public opinion and jeopardizes the public interest.

He was also accused of posting materials that offended Emirati society and were in violation of media content rules.

The defendant was seen in a luxury auto showroom wearing an Emirati dress, followed by two others carrying what appeared to be substantial amounts of money, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the UAE Attorney General’s Office, which also claimed to have kept an eye on the social media video clip.

The man was seen on camera speaking with the showroom owner and “arrogantly” requesting to purchase a car with a price tag of more than AED2m ($545,000).

The FBI in the UAE claims that “He was seen giving financial packages to the showroom staff in a way that shows irresponsibility and a lack of understanding of the value of money.

“The video promotes a wrong and offensive mental image of Emirati citizens and ridicules them, and then incites and provokes public opinion, which harms the public interest.

“The Public Prosecution ordered the summoning of the owner of the car showroom in which the aforementioned video clip was filmed.”

The Public Prosecution urged social media users in the UAE to observe the legal and ethical regulations in the media content they publish and to consider societal characteristics and embedded values of the UAE society that call for moral commitment in all aspects of behaviour to avoid falling under the force of the law.
