UEFA Strips San Siro Of Hosting 2026/27 Champions League Final

UEFA will relaunch the bidding process to host the 2027 men’s Champions League final, which was moved from Milan’s renowned San Siro stadium.

According to the Mirror, European football’s governing body has returned to the drawing board after authorities in the Italian city were unable to ensure that redevelopment work at San Siro stadium and the surrounding region will not interfere with the event.

In May, the football organization stated that a decision on the 2027 final host would be postponed pending receipt of the requisite guarantees about the San Siro restoration.

A decision on a new host is due in May or June of next year.

“As the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishment works in the period of the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to re-open the bidding process to appoint a suitable venue, with a decision expected in May/June 2025,” UEFA said in a statement.

A deal has also been reached on UEFA’s solidarity money, with Premier League clubs outside of European participation receiving a reduced share over the next three seasons than under the previous accord.

The Champions League final was last played in the San Siro in 2016, when Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid defeated local rivals Atletico Madrid on penalties.

It also hosted the 2001 final between Bayern Munich and Valencia, which Germany won on penalties.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
