The University of Abuja has taken a firm stance against misconduct, expelling 28 students for various offences, including cult-related activities, examination malpractice,
and drug possession. The decision was made during the institution’s 191st Regular Senate Meeting, following a thorough investigation by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
The expelled students were found guilty of serious misconduct, including assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, and falsification of ‘O’ Level results. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, emphasized that academic integrity is sacrosanct and warned that anyone violating the rules will face sanctions.
In addition to the expulsions, 15 former students had their certificates withdrawn for ignoring repeated invitations from the disciplinary committee. Meanwhile, nine students were cleared of wrongdoing, and 33 others received warnings for lesser offences like hostel racketeering and fighting.
Prof. Fawehinmi stressed that the university is committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment. He added that the institution will continue to enforce its rules without compromise, while also strengthening student engagement, counselling, and orientation programmes.
The university’s decision reflects its renewed efforts to tackle indiscipline and promote academic excellence. As Prof. Fawehinmi noted, the goal is not only to enforce discipline but also to guide students towards responsible citizenship and academic excellence.
