Unions Halt Plans To Remove FRIN DG; Zacharia Buba Yaduma

Union leaders at the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Ibadan, have cautioned against ousting the institution’s director general, Zacharia Buba Yaduma, and have expressed trust in his leadership.

The union revealed that Yaduma who joined the organization on April 1, 2023, prioritized the welfare of the workforce of the organizations, which included the Senior Staff Association (SSA) of the Federal College of Forestry, the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), the joint congress of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of FRIN and Colleges.

The union officials argued that the attempts to have the DG removed have been fruitless since the scholar has consistently prioritized the progress, conversion, and well-being of all workers since he joined the organization, which is a significant break from prior practices.

“We have some people at the maintenance and estate sections, whose promotions had been pegged, but that has become history since Yaduma came on board,” NASU Chairperson Olubunmi Adetona remarked.

“They have received a promotion and may now advance to the position of director. They had been unable to move before. As soon as he joined the team, he took care of that for us. Additionally, he offered drivers the chance to journey beside him, which has never occurred in the history of FRIN. He has been traveling with department heads, who have all received their full travel expenses.

“Although the atmosphere is calm and the workers are contented with him, some hawks want him gone.”

Agnesisika’s blog spoke to a member of FRIN who prefers to remain anonymous. He maintained that the institution’s director general; Zacharia Buba Yaduma, is indeed a man of honour and integrity who has put a lot of worth, humanitarian service, honesty, kindness, and, yes, right above personal gain. So, he deserves everyone’s support.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
