Two Vigilante Members Arrested For Allegedly Torturing Man To Death

Two Mbutu/Umuojima Vigilante members have been detained by the Abia State Police Command in the state’s Osisioma Ngwa Local Government area on charges of torturing a man to death.

In a statement on Friday, December 22, 2023, command spokeswoman Maureen Chinaka announced the arrest of the suspects, Emmanuel Onyebuenyi and vigilante commander Onyebuchi Ukandu.

The PPRO claims that the vigilante men detained Alex Ukaegbu, the victim, for carrying some iron rods while he was in charge of a construction site in Osisioma.

The victim reportedly died while in the suspects’ custody after they shackled him and demanded money before releasing him.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
