Watch the Moment President Macron Was Slapped During Crowd Walkabout (Video)

It takes lots of guts and effrontery to carry out a stunt that may keep you behind bars for a long time.  The President of France, Emmanuel Macron with only two bodyguards, was slapped by a member of the public, during a walkabout in southern France.

The French President was slapped in the face by a man who was said to be on an official visit.

In a video circulating on social media, Mr. Macron is seen walking up to a barrier on a trip in the south-eastern department of Drôme. A man slaps Mr. Macron in the face before being swarmed by some security aides to the president. The president meanwhile is rushed away.

According to a report from Reuters, the man was heard shouting “à bas la Macronie” (down with Macronism) before he grabbed the president’s right arm and delivered a slap to the left side of his face. He was also reported to have shouted “Montjoie Saint Denis”, the battle cry of the French armies when the country was a monarchy.

Macron said the assault was “an isolated act” that should be “put into perspective”.
“We mustn’t let ultra-violent individuals take over the public debate … There can be no violence, no hatred, not in speech or action. Otherwise, it’s democracy itself that is threatened.”

Two men have reportedly been arrested in the wake of the incident, according to French media and have since been detained.

Macron began a six-week political tour de France aimed at “taking the pulse” of the country as it emerges from the coronavirus crisis. In the run-up to regional elections this month and, more importantly, the presidential battle next year, the French leader will make two regional visits a week until mid-July.

Another footage surfaced showing President Macron appearing to be about to hit back at the guy who slapped him, before being pulled away by his security.

The guy will definitely be charged to court for assault and other charges.

Here is the video below:

More details later.
