Weekly Celebrity Spotlight For July 10-16: Funke Akindele

Stardom is never an easy road for anyone. It’s a very bumpy ride. Popular Nollywood actress; Funke Akindele has over the weeks been the topic of discussion among so many lovers of her personality including myself.

So, she takes this week’s spotlight!

It’s no longer news that the mother of twins has reportedly parted ways with her husband as was revealed on an Instagram post.

The main koko of discussion is that shortly after her marriage crashed, Funke bagged a political approach by one of the top political parties in Nigeria. How she did it, no one knows.

Do you guys remember that Akindele was once married to a Lagos State-based politician and incumbent Chairman of the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area? Yeah, they got married on May 26, 2012, but after one year and 46 days, they announced on July 15, 2013, that they were going their separate ways citing ‘irreconcilable differences.

However, in May 2016, she was hit by Cupid’s arrow yet again, and she again found love in the arms of handsome United Kingdom-based singer, music producer, and filmmaker; Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC.

Over the years, the couple won the heart of a lot of fans with the way they always seemed to glow happily when in each other’s company. For the most part of their marriage, they did not have scandals and controversies (at least none that were in the public space), until some months ago when JJC’s teenage son; Benito, from his previous marriage alleged that the couple’s marriage is not what they portray in public.

In addition to several other unverified claims, Benito added that both husband and wife were cheating on each other.

Meanwhile, on June 30, 2022, JJC took to his social media to state that he had separated from the actress and he has moved out of their house.

Barely a week after the crash of her marriage, Akindele has moved on by embarking on one of the most important ‘assignments’ of her life, as she will be campaigning alongside Jandor as the Lagos State deputy governor candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The said she joined PDP three months ago.

Akindele who did not get weighed down by the crash of marriage said “Jandor has sacrificed a lot, talking about young people passionately for over seven years. He also abandoned his business to make a change in the state. So, I am going to put aside my career now. I am coming out for the women, the youth. We have talents in Nigeria, which need to be nurtured.”

When asked how she and her party will defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 election, Funke in an interview with Channels Tv on Thursday said she has over 20m followers on social media who are ready to vote for her.

She boasted that apart from her followers on social media, so many people love her at the grassroots level in Lagos State.

Funke said: “I have the numbers, I have fans and followers and I’m true to myself.

“I have more than 20m fans on social media and also at the grassroots level.

“I have fans at the grassroots level outside Ikorodu ready to support me and I’m true to myself. What I’m coming in is to change the lives of Lagosians.

“I’m here to provide solutions in Lagos. I’m in the system, I’m in the pain, we all know where the shoe pinches us.”

Well, the end of one’s marriage is not the end of your dreams and aspirations. Although, we wish the couple could settle their differences and continue their live lives but then “he who wears the shoe knows where it pinches”.

We wish them all the best. I hope Funke Akindele achieves her dreams too.
