Weekly Football Catch-Up: Monday 26: Osimhen To Sign New Napoli Contract; Mourinho Quits FIFA Board; Ten Hag To Sell Play Who Pissed Him Off; Others

Victor Osimhen To Sign New Contract With Napoli But Could Still Leave

Aurelio De Laurentiis, President of Napoli, has issued an update on Victor Osimhen’s future with the club.

Following an outstanding 2022/23 season, the Nigeria international has been linked with a move away from the Naples club.

De Laurentiis stated that they ‘have a basic agreement on a two-year extension’ of the contract, but that he is also open to ‘consider an offer we could not refuse.’

“I have said for a while that Osimhen has to stay. Then, if an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, then we would consider it, as is only natural,” Laurentiis said at the presentation press conference for new coach Rudi Garcia.

“We already talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year extension of his contract.”

Last season, the 24-year-old scored 26 goals and gave four assists in 32 league games for Napoli.

In the UEFA Champions League, Osimhen added five more goals.

Ten Hag To Sell Of Player That Made Him Angry

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is going to be traded after “pissed off” manager Erik ten Hag, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Despite David de Gea’s uncertain future, Henderson seems unlikely to return to Old Trafford.

He spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest before being ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a thigh injury that required surgery. He is currently on his way back to his parent’s house.

Henderson, on the other hand, is unlikely to force his way back into Ten Hag’s plans, despite reports that the manager is unhappy with him.

The news comes despite the fact that De Gea’s lucrative contract expires at the end of the month, making him a free agent.

Henderson has had an unpleasant two years on the books at United, and he has openly expressed his dissatisfaction at failing to usurp De Gea despite previous assurances.

He even claimed he didn’t want Ten Hag to watch him train since he knew United’s manager would want to keep him as a competitor for his first choice.

Mbappe has already informed the club that he will not exercise his one-year contract extension option. This means that the club’s 2018 World Cup champion will become a free agent in June 2024.

According to football trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, PSG wants Mbappe to change his mind or leave the club this summer.

According to Defensa Central, Mbappe will only agree to leave Paris if the club pays a portion of his loyalty incentive.

When the Ligue 1 giants decided to extend Mbappe’s contract in May 2022, they promised to give him a loyalty bonus of €70 to €80 million every season.

According to reports, the player wants at least half of the transfer fee to leave the club this summer.

Mourinho Quits UEFA Board After 4-Match Ban

According to ESPN, Jose Mourinho, the manager of Roma, has resigned from his position on the UEFA football board.

His decision came less than two days after the European Football Federation handed Mourinho a four-match ban for verbally insulting referee Anthony Taylor following last month’s Europa League final.

Sevilla defeated Roma in a penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Following the game, a video emerged showing Mourinho approaching Taylor and hurling expletives at him outside the stadium.

Mourinho has decided to leave his position at UEFA.

His letter read: “In thanking you for the invitation you extended to me to be a member of the UEFA football board, I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will be renouncing my participation in this group.

“The conditions which I so strongly believed in when I joined are no longer standing and I felt the obligation to take this decision.

“I kindly ask that you also communicate my decision to the President, Mr. Aleksander Ceferin.”

Turkish Club Besiktas Interested In Signing Leicester’s Iheanacho

Besiktas of Turkey has made an offer for Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to the Star.

Following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League, Iheanacho is set to leave the club this summer.

Clubs interested in the Nigeria international include Everton, Burnley, and Nottingham Forest.

After making contact with Leicester City, Besiktas has taken the lead in the hunt for his signature.

The Black and Whites want to sign Iheanacho on a loan deal with the option of making it permanent.

The 26-year-old was voted Leicester City Player of the Season last season.
