Weekly Football News Catch Up: May 22nd: Manchester City Wins The Premier League; Vinicius Jr Named World Unstoppable Player; Others

Manchester City Becomes Championship Of The Premier League

Manchester City has been crowned Premier League champions for the season 2022/2023.

This comes after Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Taiwo Awoniyi, a Super Eagles striker, scored the only goal to give the host the win.

Forest’s survival in the top division is now assured, as they have 37 points from 37 games.

City has now won three titles in a row and four in the last five years under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United Defender Announces Exit From Club

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has officially announced his departure from the team this summer.

After 12 years at Old Trafford, the former England international will leave as a free agent, according to talkSPORT.

This will be included in the Red Devils released/retained list, which will be made public in a few weeks when the season comes to an end.

The Englishman has won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League throughout his 12-year playing career at United.

It’s also popularly believed that Jones joked that only his parents would attend a testimonial ceremony at the Theatre of Dreams to honour his decade of service to the club.

Liverpool Announces Exit Of 4 First Team Players

Liverpool has announced the departure of at least four first-team players this summer.

They are James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Roberto Firmino.

They’re anticipated to leave Anfield when the four players’ current contracts with the Premier League team run out.

“Special acknowledgements will be paid to the quartet at Anfield; further tributes to follow at the end of the season,” Liverpool said in a statement on Wednesday.

Firmino revealed his departure before the club issued an official announcement, but he says he is still contemplating his alternatives.

Milner is rumoured to be joining the Reds’ rivals, Brighton, while Alex MacAllister is set to go the other way.

Vinicius Jr Named World’s Most Unstoppable Player

Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid has overcome Lionel Messi of PSG and Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund to become the world’s most unstoppable player.

Vinicius scored the game-winning goal in Real Madrid’s Champions League final versus Liverpool last season.

The Brazil international has maintained his brilliant form for Los Blancos this season.

The 22-year-old scored the first goal of the Spanish giants’ semi-final first-leg against Manchester City at the Bernabeu last week.

Vinicius has had the most successful take-ons in Europe this season, totalling 105.

According to talkSPORT, he is nine goals ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi (96), and Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is third (88).

Manchester City Star Seen Telling Guardiola To Shut Up

Manchester City player Kevin De Bruyne was caught on camera looking at Guardiola and urging him to shut up during their Champions League second-leg semi-final victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium.

The Manchester Club dominated the Spanish heavyweights at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League champions have secured a place in Europe’s highest competition final, where they will face Italian giants Inter on June 10.

Guardiola’s team won thanks to two goals from Bernardo Silva in the first half and two late goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez.

Real Madrid improved in the second half, but they were still unable to trouble the Premier League side.

Guardiola, who does not want his squad to take any chances, was seen losing his cool on the touchline with De Bruyne when the Belgium international dropped the ball at one point in the second half.

After losing possession, De Bruyne screamed “Shut up, shut up” at his manager as he urged him to pass the ball.
