Weekly Football News Catch Up: May 29th: Bayern Munich Sacks CEO Oliver Kahn; Ronaldo Named Most Influential Athlete, See List; Others

Bayern Munich Sacks CEO Oliver Kahn, Replacement Revealed

Oliver Kahn was fired as CEO of FC Bayern Munich shortly after the Bavarians won the Bundesliga title on Saturday.

Jan-Christian Dreesen will succeed Kahn as CEO of Bayern Munich.

This was revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano in a tweet via his Twitter profile shortly after Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening.

Bayern Munich were named Bundesliga champions on Saturday after defeating Koln 2-1 on the final day of the season, while Dortmund drew 2-2 with Mainz.

“Oliver Kahn has been dismissed as FC Bayern CEO right after winning the title. Dreesen will be the new club’s CEO,” Romano tweeted.

“Kahn was not in attendance today for Köln-Bayern final, title game.”

“It Is A Joke,” Mourinho Speaks On Juventus Point Deduction

The decision to drop Juventus points for the second time this season, according to Roma manager Jose Mourinho, is “a joke.”

The Bianconeri were first docked 15 points, which caused them to fall to 10th place, in January.

Last month, the ruling was overturned, and Juventus advanced to the Champions League stage.

The former Serie A winners, however, have suffered greater consequences as a result of their financial misconduct and shady transfer deals.

Speaking following Monday’s 2-2 tie between Roma and Salernitana, Mourinho told DAZN: “It’s a joke to know this with two games remaining.

“For us and everyone, even for Juventus. Our approach would have been different if we had known before the games with Monza and Bologna.

“I am sorry for [Massimiliano] Allegri and his players, but at the league level, I have to say that it changes things a little.”

Jamie Carragher Apologies To Manchester United Defender

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has apologised to Lisandro Martinez after he previously said that the Manchester United defender was too small to play in the Premier League.

Martinez joined Man United from Ajax last summer transfer window.

However, before he had even stepped on the pitch for Man United, many expressed doubts over whether the Argentina World Cup winner was the right fit for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Critics, including Carragher, held reservations over Martinez’s height as he is currently the shortest centre-back in the Premier League at just 5ft 9in.

“That is small for any player on the pitch in some ways now, really,” Carragher had said back in August.

But Martinez has proved his doubters wrong as he has been a key part of Ten Hag’s team, helping them win the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final, where they will play Manchester City.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Monday, Carragher described Martinez as a leader and a warrior, admitting that he made a mistake over his comments on the 25-year-old.

He said, “[Too short to play in the Premier League] that is not about Lisandro Martinez, that is about any centre-back coming to the Premier League whose well under six-foot you think is going to have a problem.

“I just looked at him and thought, how can you overcome that in the Premier League.

“But just like with Casemiro, it is a massive drop off when Martinez is not in the Manchester United team defensively, but also his ability on the ball and playing out from the back.

“He is a warrior, he is a leader and when you think of that spine of the team, certainly him and Casemiro, two new signings, they have made a huge difference.

“So apologies Lisandro and all Man United fans can you stop tweeting me about Lisandro Martinez now please!”

Cristiano Ronaldo Ranks World Most Influential Athlete, See Top Three

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli have all been named to the list of the world’s most influential athletes.

According to HypeAuditor, the cricketer is the most influential Asian athlete in the world, trailing only Ronaldo and Messi on Instagram.

The three are all masters of their respective trades, with large social media followings.

Ronaldo is presently playing with a Saudi Arabian club.

With 584 million followers, the Portuguese is the most followed person on Instagram.

Messi, his Argentine adversary, has a big fan base as well, with 463 million people following him on Instagram.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is now playing for Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1.

Kohli, on the other hand, has 249 million Instagram followers and is a member of the Indian national cricket team.

He is a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the Indian Premier League.

Bukayo Saka Signs New Contract With Arsenal

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka signed a new contract extension with the Premier League club on Tuesday.

Over the years, the 21-year-old has grown into a crucial member of Mikel Arteta’s team.

As talks with the Gunners dragged on, Saka was linked with a move to Manchester City.

He has, however, dedicated his future to Arsenal and has become one of the club’s biggest earners.

According to Mail Sport, the deal is worth up to £15 million, including incentives and other associated payments, bringing his weekly salary to over £300,000 per week.

Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes signed new contracts earlier this year, and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale extended his contract last week.

Tottenham Offers Real Madrid Harry Kane For Eden Hazard

Real Madrid has been offered the chance to capture Tottenham striker Harry Kane in a deal that may see Eden Hazard leave.

Kane’s future will be a topic of discussion this summer, as his current contract is set to expire in June 2024.

Spurs would ideally like to move the 29-year-old to a foreign club.

According to Cadena Ser, Madrid has received an offer to sign Kane from an intermediary and they are now weighing their options.

Karim Benzema, Los Blancos’ main striker, is already 35 years old, and the club has agreed to recruit young Brazilian prospect Endrick from Palmeiras.

Endrick, on the other hand, will not be able to join the LaLiga giants for another two years, and Kane could bridge the time gap between the two talents.
