We’re not interested in merger with PDP, others – LP

Claims that the Labour Party (LP) was negotiating a merger agreement with any political party have been refuted.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, announced this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, November 16.

Recall that recently, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar urged opposition parties to unite in order to prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.

According to a previous report, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party’s acting national publicity secretary, characterised Atiku’s call as a commendable proposition that every Nigerian need to take into account.

Ifoh did, however, indicate in a recent statement that there would be no merger. According to Ifoh, the previous state was purely a “news item twisted and sensationalised by a section of the media to embarrass the party.”

“In my reaction, I said that it was only a proposal that every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work and that what we have presently is an autocracy. There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between.”

Ifoh stated that the LP had just finished the general election episode for 2023, that a post-mortem had not yet taken place, and that the party’s future had not been addressed.

“When we do, Nigerians will be properly informed” he said.
