Woman Files For Divorce After ChatGPT Suggested Her Husband Was Cheating

Concept of justice, law and legal system

A woman in Greece has taken the dramatic step of filing for divorce, and it all started with an interaction with ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot. According to local reports, she sent a photo of her husband’s coffee grounds to the chatbot, seeking insight into the peculiar patterns left behind. Little did she know that this would lead to a life-altering decision.

The method she used—a form of fortune-telling called tasseography—has ancient roots, typically involving the reading of coffee or tea sediments. However, when the chatbot responded with a startling assertion that her husband was either contemplating or already involved in an affair with someone whose name began with the letter “E,” the gravity of the situation became apparent.

After 12 years of marriage and being a mother of two, the woman took the AI-generated interpretation to heart. In just a few days, she confronted her husband, demanded he leave, and even informed their children about the impending divorce—before officially serving him with divorce papers.

The husband, appearing on the morning talk show To Proino, expressed shock at the swift turn of events. He revealed that his wife had a history of believing in the supernatural, recalling a time when she consulted an astrologer and took a year to fully embrace reality. Initially, he chuckled at the chatbot’s claim, thinking it was just a fleeting obsession. But a mere three days later, he received a lawyer’s call, and the severity of the situation hit him.

“I laughed it off as nonsense, but she took it seriously. She asked me to leave, told our kids we were getting divorced, and then I got a call from a lawyer. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just a phase,” he said.

Now, he’s refusing to go along with the divorce, advocating that the unfounded claims from ChatGPT hold no legal weight. His lawyer insists he is ‘innocent until proven otherwise,’ and the couple’s story has sparked conversations about the influence of AI on personal relationships.
