Woman Kills Daughter As She Felt Abandoned Her Father

Sughshater Ushahemba, a woman living in the Mbadyur council ward in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue state, has been taken into custody by the police for reportedly poisoning her 11-month-old child to death.

The woman had previously stated that her kid became ill at 12:31 am and died two hours later, according to Paul Pevikyaa, the Information Officer of Logo LGA, who confirmed the incident to reporters.

“When the woman was interviewed, she said when they were asleep, around 12.31 am, the baby started having a high fever and that the body was so hot that she gave up within two hours. She said that the mistake she made was at daybreak, she failed to inform her neighbours of what happened in the night because there is a strong belief that when you have neighbours and when you are having difficulties at night, at least you can call your neighbours to help you and they can be your witness. But she never did that.”

However, the information officer stated that the woman eventually admitted to killing her child because the man who had pregnant her had abandoned her.

“So when day broke, she now attempted burying the baby. The baby was 11 months old,” he said.

According to the woman, her boyfriend got her pregnant, and after she gave birth to a girl, the boy left her and the child, Pevikyaa continued.

“She said she had been suffering with the child, and that was why she poisoned the baby by giving her a chemical that is used to spray grasses,” Pevikyaa said.

The suspect is in police custody, according to Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue State Command, SP, who confirmed the event to reporters.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
