Woman Sells Baby For N4m, Gives Mother N600,000

Rachael, a 26-year-old woman, has revealed how she sold her two-week-old baby for N600,000 owing to her incapacity to care for the child.

The infant was reportedly sold for N4 million to a 42-year-old woman looking to adopt a kid, but the mother of the child received only N600,000 from the broker.

Rachael, a native of Asaba, Delta State, was presented at the state Police Command alongside two other accomplices by Mr Bright Edafe, the command’s Public Relations Officer.

She stated that she had one other male child and that she had to give up the two-week-old baby girl because she was struggling to care for both children.

She stated that the father of the two-week-old baby denied paternity of the child, whom she claimed she gave birth to on January 27, 2025.

“I gave the baby away because I am the only one taking care of the child,” Rachael said.

On how she coped while she was pregnant, she said: “l took care of myself, I struggled, I was going to people’s compound to clean and do some other chores.”

She stated that she was introduced to a woman whom she begged for assistance because she was unable to support two children financially.

Rachael said: “The woman gave me N600,000 and said I should settle her and I gave her N30,000.”

Meanwhile, the woman, whose identity has not been revealed, stated that she sold the child for N3.5 million and paid the mother N600,000.

She stated that the child’s mother informed her that she planned to use the money to establish a business.

The 42-year-old mother who tried to adopt the child stated that she paid N4 million.

According to her, she was assured that the child’s adoption documents were being processed and that the adoption procedure was lawful.
