Yeni Kuti, a Nigerian singer and dancer, has revealed something startling about her late mother, Remilekun Anikulapo-Kuti, who was married to Fela, a legendary figure in music.
Yeni disclosed in an interview with Premium Times that her mother remained celibate for twenty years following the dissolution of her marriage to Fela.
“My mummy moved out of my father’s house in 1981, and she died in 2002. From 1981 till she died, she never met another man; she was celibate during that period. She got cancer in between and when the doctor asked why she wasn’t using it, she said, ‘Fela is the only man for me’,” she said.
Celibacy is the state of abstaining from marriage and s*xual activity. It is often chosen for religious, spiritual, personal, or health reasons. Some people practice celibacy temporarily, while others may choose to remain celibate for a longer period or for their entire lives.
