
On Thursday, January 19, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission oversaw the destruction and incineration of 243 cartons of alcohol, seized three weeks prior at Maina Lodge in Damaturu.
The operation was supervised by the Commission’s Chairman, Dr Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, with security personnel and community members present as witnesses.
The alcohol, comprising various brands and varieties, was destroyed in accordance with the legal and moral standards enforced in Yobe State.
Dr Yahuza reiterated that the consumption, sale, and distribution of alcohol remain prohibited under the state’s religious and legal framework.
He praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for establishing the Hisbah Commission and consistently providing the support and resources necessary for its effective functioning.
In a related event, 17 cartons of alcohol were also destroyed in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, by the Local Government Hisbah Unit.
The Chairman urged residents to report any suspicious or immoral activities, including the illegal sale or possession of alcohol, to the relevant authorities for swift action.
The Hisbah Commission emphasized its unwavering commitment to maintaining moral discipline and public safety in line with the religious and cultural values of Yobe State.
