You Can Now Post TikTok Videos Up To 10 Minutes Long

TikTok released an update on Monday to allow users the ability to post videos up to 10 minutes in length, surpassing the previous maximum upload time of three minutes.

A spokesperson for the app confirmed that TikTok videos are about to get lengthier.

“Today, we’re excited to start rolling out the ability to upload videos that are up to 10 minutes, which we hope would unleash even more creative possibilities for our creators around the world,” a TikTok spokesperson told Insider Monday.

The platform is “always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” the spokesperson said, and 10-minute video are their latest attempt to better the app.

The change is the latest instance of TikTok appearing to shift to better compete with other platforms, like YouTube, which allows users to upload videos of any length. The new upload limit also recalls the defunct Quibi, a short-form streaming app with 10-minute content designed for mobile viewing.

The last time TikTok increased its maximum video time was in July 2021, when it upped video length from one minute to three minutes.

As TikTok evolves into a longer-form app with videos closer to the length of content on YouTube, other platforms like YouTube and Instagram are trying to capture the magic of short-form videos.

Instagram has its TikTok-like feature called Reels, and YouTube has Shorts, both of which were rolled out in 2020.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
