An 11-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly gang-raped in the school bathroom by two senior students, according to allegations being looked into by Indian police.
The alleged assault is believed to have occurred in July but was only brought to light on Thursday, October 6, thanks to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).
The DCW demanded an investigation into the alleged crime and the involvement of school authorities.
Meanwhile, no arrests have been made as of yet, although, the police have launched an investigation.
The girl, a student at a government-run school in the country’s capital, Delhi, claimed that while heading for her classroom in July, she collided with two boys who were both high school students attending the same school, according to a statement released by DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday, October 5.
The girl apologized to the boys, according to the statement, “but they started abusing her and took her inside a toilet, locked the door and allegedly raped her”.
The girl has reportedly also accused the school administration of “covering up the matter,” according to Ms. Maliwal.
She claimed that when she told a teacher about what had occurred, the teacher responded, “The boys have been expelled.”
She further said that police must take action against “the school teacher and any other staff” who failed to report the alleged assault and that the involvement of the school administration must be looked into.
The school has insisted that the girl did not inform the principal about the event, but it yet requested an investigation.
The police reported that they had begun an investigation and filed a complaint under the Protection of Children from S*xual Offenses (Pocso) Act.
They stated that they were questioning the suspected kids and teachers.
