Along the Seme and Badagry creeks, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has intercepted 1,050 jerry cans (30 liters each) of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.
The DPV (Duty Paid Value) of the products is N5,393,920.00.
Mr. Hussain Abdullahi, the command’s spokesman, said this in a statement released on Thursday in Seme, Badagry, Lagos State.
Comptroller Bello Jibo, the Customs Area Controller, was quoted by Abdullahi as stating that the apprehension was made possible by his men’s devotion.
He stated that they were devoted to suppressing daredevil smugglers’ actions to the minimum level.
On Tuesday in Seme, Badagry, the Controller of Seme Customs Area Command, Comptroller Bello Jibo, and his colleagues displayed intercepted 1050 Jerry cans (30 liters).
On December 1, officers and personnel in the axis intercepted considerable numbers of stuff in sacks near the waterways and beaches, according to Jibo.
“Upon examination, 1,050 jerry cans of 30litres each of petroleum products which is equivalent to 31,500 liters were discovered with DPV of N5,393,902.00 only.
“The unfortunate scenario is that apart from sabotaging the efforts of the government that is paying huge amount of money to subsidize the products for the benefit of Nigerians, smuggling of petroleum also poses threats to their own lives and most times vehicles get burnt when an accident occurs,” Jibo said.
Jibo reaffirmed the Command’s officers’ and men’s willingness to keep fighting smuggling and other crimes at a faster pace.
He praised the management team and Comptroller General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali, for providing logistics to support the Command.
The command, he said, received four Hilux vehicles to help with operations.
Customs will continue to implement federal government policies to combat smuggling, he said.
Jibo added that they would also oversee proper revenue collection and the facilitation of genuine trade.
