Suicidal Threat As Man Holds A Shotgun To His Throat Outside UN Building At New York

According to police, officers from the New York Police Department are engaged in an armed standoff with a guy carrying a shotgun outside the United Nations headquarters.

On camera, the man can be seen pacing outside a Tudor City building along the East River. At 10:39 a.m., the incident was reported at the bus stop on E 42nd Street and 1st Avenue.

The white man, who is thought to be in his 60s, is dressed in blue pants, a light blue shirt underneath a red sweater, and a tan jacket. According to Dailymail, he is seen holding the shotgun barrel to his head.

‘Put down the gun,’ police were heard saying. There are better ways to get your message out.’

Officers issued warnings and tried to negotiate with him while their guns were focused on him. According to reports, the individual is threatening to harm himself. Behind him, a black bag, a red megaphone, glasses, a water bottle, some jackets, and several little unexplained objects were thrown on the sidewalk.

‘There is currently NO THREAT to the public,’ according to a statement made by the NYPD.

The man can be seen walking back and forth while holding the rifle barrel to his chin on video from the incident.

He looks to be chatting to someone out of the shot while clutching a red folder. He stands up and walks in the direction he was speaking, holding the shotgun and the red folder in his hands.

The NYPD acknowledged that they are attempting to communicate with the armed individual, but no statements he has made have been reported.

According to CNN, two law enforcement officials say the man was observed muttering to himself and carrying what looks to be a bag.

A bomb squad has been dispatched to the scene, which has a large police presence.

Around 11 a.m., the NYPD issued a traffic advisory, advising residents to avoid the area because emergency vehicles were expected to surround it. FDR Drive traffic has been impacted.

At least a half-dozen emergency vehicles have arrived on the site.

Helicopters have been heard flying over the area, and traffic has been blocked uptown by a city bus.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
