Gunmen K!ll Village Head And One Other In Plateau Attack

Armed assailants have slain a village head along with one additional individual during an assault on the Darong community located in Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The event took place around 8:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, when a group of unknown gunmen stormed into the community and started firing indiscriminately.

During the assault, the village head of Gyel District, Dara Pam Choji, and one other unidentified male suffered gunshot wounds.

After getting the distress alert, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division Bukuru directed a squad of officers to the location and transported the injured individuals to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Regrettably, the victims were declared d3ad upon arrival by the attending physician.

A youth leader from the community and President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, Solomon Dalyop, who verified the attack in a statement released on Wednesday, indicated that the incident came after prior alerts about intended raids on local villages.

“In another turn of events, at about 7:50 pm on 21st October, 2025, bandits suspected to be armed Fulani attacked and shot d3ad two people, among whom is Mr Pam Choji, and one was injured at Daron village of Gyel District in Jos South LGA,” he stated.

“The bandits just opened fire on the community. That attack followed an early warning of planned attacks on villages of Gyel and neighbouring settlements.”

In the meantime, additional forces including soldiers and police officers have been sent to the region to reestablish peace and avert any further disruption of law and order.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, acknowledged the occurrence.

“Yes, we are aware of the incident. We have just finished our monthly press briefing, and we are moving to the community right now,” he added.
