Oyo Begins Compensation Payout for Ojoo/Akinyele Road Expansion In Ibadan

The Oyo State Government has started disbursing compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing expansion and asphaltic reconstruction of the Ojoo/Akinyele road in Ibadan. The move is aimed at easing the impact of the major infrastructure project on residents and businesses along the corridor.

State officials said the compensation process follows due verification of affected structures and land within the project’s right-of-way. Teams from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development have been engaging directly with claimants to ensure transparency and timely payment.

The Ojoo/Akinyele road upgrade is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s infrastructure push to decongest Ibadan and improve connectivity between the city center and northern axis. The expansion will widen the carriageway, improve drainage, and install modern street lighting to reduce accidents and traffic bottlenecks.

Government spokespersons noted that compensation covers buildings, fences, and economic trees lost to the road corridor. They urged affected persons to present valid documentation to avoid delays, adding that payments will continue in batches as verification is completed.

The project has drawn public interest due to the high density of shops, homes, and schools along the route. Residents have welcomed the compensation, saying it will help them relocate or rebuild without bearing the full financial burden of the development.

With construction work advancing, the state government says it remains committed to balancing infrastructure growth with citizens’ welfare. Officials added that similar compensation frameworks will guide future road projects across Oyo State to ensure fairness and public trust.
